Many geopolitical experts across the globe are seeing the recent SCO summit of 2025 held in China as the turning point in the relationship between the countries that attended, as well as the US. This is more so because of the fact that just after the meeting concluded, Trump made sharp comments on India and Russia.
Some have even termed the remarks racist as Trump said that the USA has lost its dearest friends, India and Russia, to China. However, there is more to what meets the eye. Many experts are of the view that Trump’s own actions have played a vital role in distancing India and Russia from the US.
It is a matter of common knowledge that from time to time the US has come up with unfavorable trade policies with Russia and India. Experts believe that this, too, might play a significant role in pushing India and Russia towards China. The fact that the US revoked India’s Generalized System of Preferences status also played a role in straining the relationship between these two countries.
When the system was in place, India could export goods to the US without any duty, but after the preferred status was revoked, India’s exports to the US dropped sharply, which indicates India did not take the revoked status very kindly.
New Delhi was also disappointed when Trump repeatedly accused India of indulging in unfair trade practices, even when India’s trade with the USA was hitting record highs. However, the lowest point in India’s diplomatic relations with the US came when the USA decided to impose a 50% tariff on most of the Indian goods. The move was seen as discriminatory and played a major role in straining the relationship between these two countries.
Many people, even from the Trump administration, have agreed that Trump has always tried to dictate terms in US-India relations as well as in its relations with Russia. Through some of his infamous rhetoric, he made it clear that third-world countries like India will always have to abide by what the US says or face dire consequences. Even this recent remark of Trump on India, Russia China ties sounded as if countries like India and Russia have always been against the USA and not the other way round.

One member from the Trump administration went to the extent of claiming that soon India will “regret”. Many geopolitical experts now agree that these aggressive strategies of Trump have played a vital role in pushing India and Russia towards China.
Experts have now raised the alarm, claiming that changing geopolitical equations in Asia could have a significant impact on the West too. This can lead to a situation where major countries in the world go on an open trade war with each other, increasing the prices of essentials like fuel and gas across the globe.

Even Russia has condemned the aggressive stance of the Trump administration regarding the SCO summit held in China. Moscow has condemned the frequent change in the US’s stance on Russia. The Putin administration has criticized the fact that one day, Trump praises Putin and the next day he says something different, visibly leaving Moscow upset. However, the geopolitical experts of Russia believe that the lowest point in US-Russia relations came when Trump criticized India for still buying oil from Russia when the war with Ukraine was at its peak.
And Trump’s recent comments on the Modi, Putin, and Xi summit are expected to further dampen the relations between the USA and Russia.
