Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra have together sold 45% more in Europe than the Galaxy Z Fold7 did over the same stretch last year. The catch is that two new phones are being measured against one old one, so the figure doesn’t show how either Fold8 would do alone.
What Samsung is claiming
The comparison covers the first nine weeks after the Fold8 range went on sale on 7 August 2026. Samsung set those weeks against the matching period for the Fold7 in 2025 and reports a 45% rise in European sales. Its own headline rounds that up to “almost 50%”.
The data comes from a Samsung UK news release, not from an independent source such as a market tracker. Samsung has not published unit numbers.
Why the comparison needs care
- Two phones against one. The Fold8 and the Fold8 Ultra are counted together. The Fold7 launched as a single model, so a combined figure will naturally look bigger.
- No model-by-model split. Samsung hasn’t said whether the Fold8 or the Fold8 Ultra sells better than the Fold7 on its own.
- The lead has narrowed. In September, Samsung reported a 50% increase for an earlier, shorter period. The new 45% covers a longer window, so the early boost has faded a little.
None of that means the Fold8 range is selling badly. It means the headline number can’t tell us whether the new design is more popular than the old one.
The search-interest claim
Samsung also points to Google search trends. According to the company, searches for Samsung foldables across 32 European markets rose by more than 260% in September compared with August. The peak came in the week of 6 to 12 September, with a rise of about 460%.
That week matches Apple’s unveiling of its first foldable, the iPhone Duo. It is reasonable to think Apple’s entry lifted interest in foldables as a whole, but the timing alone doesn’t prove it. Search interest also isn’t the same as sales.

What to take from it
The numbers show real interest in Samsung’s foldables in Europe, and Samsung is clearly pleased with the start. Wait for model-level data or independent market figures before drawing a firm conclusion about how the Fold8 compares with the Fold7.
