Google Fitbit Edge: Launch, Price, Specs and How It Compares With the Charge 6

Google Fitbit Edge: Launch, Price, Specs and How It Compares With the Charge 6

Google’s new fitness tracker takes over from the Charge 6. Here is what is known, what is still rumoured, and what to check before you buy.

Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a fitness tracker that takes the Charge 6’s place in the Fitbit lineup. It was widely expected to arrive as the Charge 7, but Google used a new name. The Edge has a Pixel Watch-style design and runs Fitbit software, not Wear OS. Most of its specs and its price come from leaks published before launch, so confirm the final figures on Google’s own product page.

What is the Google Fitbit Edge?

The Fitbit Edge is a band-style fitness tracker that works with both Android phones and iPhones. It focuses on health and activity tracking and does not run the full smartwatch software found on the Pixel Watch. Google’s teaser ahead of the reveal used the tagline “Get an Edge on your health” and the date 10.12.26.

Fitbit Edge specs reported so far

These details come from leaks and early reports. Sources agree on some points and differ on others.

  • Display: about 1.34 inches, AMOLED, with an always-on option. Reports differ on whether the screen is flat or slightly curved.
  • Battery: up to 7 days. One leak says that drops to roughly 2 days with the always-on display switched on.
  • Water and dust resistance: IP68 rating, according to the leaks.
  • Location and payments: GPS and NFC.
  • Health sensors: heart rate is confirmed in most reports. Some leaks also mention ECG, SpO2 and skin temperature.
  • Exercise tracking: more than 40 exercise modes.
  • Compatibility: Android and iOS, running Fitbit software.

Treat sensor details and the battery figure as unverified until Google publishes its official specifications. Battery claims in particular depend on settings and how you use the device.

Fitbit Edge price

Leaked pricing points to about £159 in the UK, €179 in Europe and roughly $180 in the US, though US estimates in different reports range from $149 to $199. That would put it above the Charge 6, which launched at $159.95 in the US. Some features, including Google’s AI health coaching, require a paid Google Health Premium subscription, so the device price is not the whole cost.

Fitbit Edge vs Fitbit Charge 6

The Edge is a replacement, not a straight upgrade.

  • What looks better: a larger display, reported at 1.34 inches against 1.04 inches on the Charge 6, and a lighter body in the leaks.
  • What looks the same: battery life is listed as up to 7 days on both.
  • What may be missing: Tech Advisor reports that the Edge lacks some features the Charge 6 has. Support for payments through Google Wallet and an electrodermal activity (stress) sensor are worth checking on the official spec sheet, because the leaks don’t confirm them.

If you rely on a specific Charge 6 feature, compare the official specification pages before upgrading.

Should you wait for reviews?

If you are buying mainly for battery life and basic tracking, the Charge 6 may still serve you well, and it could get cheaper now that its successor is out. If you want the larger screen and newer design, wait for hands-on reviews. Independent testing is the only way to confirm the battery life, the accuracy of the heart rate readings and GPS, and how the software feels day to day.
