If this Clickhole item is accurate which it shouldn’t be the governor of California is trying to find work in comedy.
Less enticing is the reality: Gavin Newsom aspires to be the president of the United States. Attacks on Donald Trump, his policies, and, of course, his nuttiness on social media have increased during his administration. From his time as San Francisco’s mayor to his time as my state’s governor to this really awkward selfie with a prospective Mar-a-Lago resident, I have personally experienced Gavin Newsom’s ascent to prominence. Finally, the Gavin Newsom that I have grown to so tolerant of is seen to the world.
A man who has a propensity to make the right decision in the most obnoxious way.
Most importantly, Newsom is the type of politician who will take full advantage of the fact that San Francisco legalized same-sex marriage in 2004 as long as it involves a camera and a working microphone. As Texas gerrymanders itself to rig the midterm elections in favor of Republicans, we are currently seeing one of those dreaded “moments.” Newsom is making the most of it by attempting to redraw California’s boundaries and using one of his office’s social media accounts to launch a humorous attack on the White House. What I hate most about this is that he is using nostalgia as a weapon.
Like a French cheese or a foul body odor, nostalgia has a strong hold. Don’t we all enjoy going back in time and acting as though we still have all of our hair, can endure an Oasis concert for more than thirty minutes, and that ordinary people are interested in Twitter? Do you recall 2017? It was an enjoyable year. The original Nintendo Switch, the Women’s March, and Montenegro’s (ugh, finally) accession to NATO. Without a doubt, it was a year. It was undoubtedly one of those years. There wasn’t a minute that passed back then without a Krassenstein brother alerting you to the impending indictments.
that the pee clip was available via Amazon Prime and that Donald Trump was a pathetic candidate. The neurotic liberals who were doing their best to white-knuckle through the first Trump presidency adored Robert Mueller, who was like Elvis gyrating on the Ed Sullivan Show. On occasion, I will play the Despacito music video and simply feel like I’m in 2017.You may not recall it, but I can assure you that song was once very popular.
We all believed that we could make fun of Trump till he died. Yes, I did try. Without a doubt, I failed. It was a humorous idea, though, to imagine we could entice the man into appeasement. Our initial encounter with the Don was kind of a satirical explosion.
the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Daily Show, and online publications such as Crooked Media. He would disappear like a bully in the playground with an odd birthmark if we simply made fun of his tan. Trump prevailed with harsher taunts, more trite remarks, and theatrical intimidation techniques that galvanized his supporters in spite of the best efforts of numerous Ivy League educated brilliances. Almost ten years into the Trump administration, no leftist has been able to come up with a long-term solution to undermine the Maga mystique that doesn’t involve the Jeffrey Epstein files.
As a result, whenever I see the debilitating assault of Newsom’s @GovPressOffice account, I can’t help but be transported back to the idealistic times when “the resistance” was a hashtag that actually seemed to mean something.
@GovPressOffice is a magnificent relic from 2017. 2018 as well. 2019 as well. And 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2020 respectively. Kamala Harris even used this similar strategy, constantly making fun of Trump on social media. Platforms like X are seen by the most ardent political junkies as the ultimate battlefield, where people may be won over with a little sarcasm or a meme of JD Vance as a baby. That meme could, at most, result in your deportation.
However, I continue to doubt that it can influence an election. They continued, however. Any Democrat who has even the slightest chance of national exposure tends to instantly enter full 2017 “resistance” mode in an attempt to make the right make some fanciful, unforced political blunder. Permit me to copy and paste a real tweet from @GovPressOffice. Make your own judgment as to whether you believe this will influence a voter to lean left:
Whoa! The greatest laws in the world not just in America will soon adopt my maps, which are the best maps ever created. America is grateful to me, Gavin C. Newsum, together with Rainmaker Robert and Magic Mike, two highly remarkable individuals who are in charge of the legislation. They are true legends! THESE MAPS ARE “PERFECT, BEAUTIFUL.” (Sorry, Tim, no gold bar for me, but I still love you.) Better than Google Maps, Better than Apple Maps, Better than Columbus. “MAMA! MAMA!” is already being screamed by people. “No, I am your father!” I add. Because of me, the people’s governor and chief cartographer, who will now allow the people to cast ballots, the Golden State is entering a new era! USA, THANK YOU! GCN
The passage above, if I may go all r/PeterExplainsTheJoke, concerns how the Newsom account imitates Trump’s propensity to publish irrational threats and self-aggrandizements in all caps. The real Trump, meanwhile, only shares content on his own social media platform, where he claims that sending troops to Washington, DC, has magically reduced crime, Democrats are twirling their mustaches and planning to rig elections, and the governor of California is called “Gavin Newscum.” Not even a catchy moniker. Nobody in the Maga base is interested on whether he is genuinely humorous or whether he has anything clever to say, despite the fact that he stupidly left “Goofy Gavin,” “Blabbin Gavin,” and “Gavin Nonuts” on the table. Trump appeals to them because he is who he truly is.
He is a fully formed cartoon character who is immune to name-calling, garden variety teasing, and South Park episodes. Though it didn’t result in any votes, JD Vance making love to a sofa accounted for half of Harris 2024’s social media campaign. In between puffs of sadness fumes at the depression factory that is America in 2025, I suppose I can have a little laugh.
This does not imply that Newsom is a useless fool who has achieved success due to and in some respects even because of his gorgeous head of hair. He’s not useless, no. The only logical reaction to the right-wing escalation is the redistricting plan he has implemented here in California. However, what benefits does parody offer? What are the benefits of mimicking for Democrats?
It’s just another example of the opposition reiterating the idea that Trump sets the parameters of the discussion. Between “lol, I called myself the ‘CARTOGRAPHER IN CHIEF,'” and “when they go low, we go high” surrender, there is a medium ground. The Democrats need to stop trying to be Trump and start attempting to be someone else if they want to regain dignity and authority. Something logical. Something that people can relate to. Needling Trump is a fantastic method to ensure clicks and attention. I know, I assure you. However, I am not California’s governor. In essence, I’m a long-lost, less successful Krassenstein brother looking to profit off #resistance. The left will remain a pale ghost of their opponent unless they figure out how to be something different. we’ll keep wishing it was still 2017.
