The Bangladesh interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, has confirmed that 10 individuals have been taken into custody following the brutal murder of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka.
The Accused and the Arrests
A coordinated operation by RAB-14 and the Bhaluka Police led to the apprehension of suspects ranging in age from 19 to 46. Notably, the investigation has shifted toward factory management, with reports suggesting that internal disputes were masked as “blasphemy” to incite the mob.
Identified Suspects arrested by RAB:
- Md. Limon Sarkar (19)
- Md. Tarek Hossain (19)
- Md. Manik Mia (20)
- Ershad Ali (39)
- Nijum Uddin (20)
- Alomgir Hossain (38) – Factory Floor Manager
- Md. Miraj Hossain Akon (46) – Quality Manager
Additional Suspects arrested by Police: 8. Md. Azmol Hasan Sagir (26) 9. Md. Shahin Mia (19) 10. Md. Nazmul
Specific Legal Charges
According to police sources at the Bhaluka Model Police Station, a case has been filed under several sections of the Bangladesh Penal Code:
- Section 302 (Murder): The primary charge against all participants identified in the viral video footage. If convicted, this carries the death penalty or life imprisonment.
- Section 341/342 (Wrongful Restraint & Confinement): For tying the victim to a tree and preventing his escape.
- Section 201 (Causing Disappearance of Evidence): For the act of setting the body on fire on the highway to destroy evidence of the physical assault.
- Section 114 (Abetment): Specifically aimed at the factory managers who allegedly handed Dipu over to the mob instead of providing security.
The “No Blasphemy” Finding
In a significant briefing, RAB-14 Director Naimul Hassan stated that preliminary investigations have found no clear evidence of blasphemy. The authorities are now investigating whether the floor manager, Alomgir Hossain, used the false allegation as a weapon to settle a dispute regarding production demands.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared under the light of the law. There is no space for such violence in New Bangladesh.” Statement from the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Impact on the Community
The swift arrests are seen as an attempt by the interim government to restore faith in the Rule of Law amid rising international pressure. However, minority rights groups like the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council continue to demand a special tribunal to ensure these cases do not languish in the backlogged general courts.
